hippie headband

abby was begging me to put this ribbon in her hair for weeks!
{see it's off of a birthday present, and i was trying to save it in my wrapping supplies, but that didn't happen}
i found inspiration one day to crochet the ribbon (single chain) into a hippie head band for her.
the result...
{and don't let the picture fool you... she totally rocks this, i was just the only head to put it on after i was done}

mason jar candle holder

this is such an easy & elegant project

supplies needed:
tissue paper (any color you desire)
doilies (optional)
foam brush
scissors
mason jar
mod podge

step one:
cut strips of your tissue paper {about 1-2 inches wide} to length needed for your jar, leave about 1 1/2 in at the top.

step two:
place on outside of mason jar and coat with mod podge
continue this step until the whole jar is covered.

step three:
fold down the excess tissue paper around the lip of the mason jar and mod podge away

step four:
place doilies anywhere on the jar, and mod podge those babies

step five:
wait until mod podge dries completely
 {i did another coat of mod podge all over after it was dry, but it is not necessarily needed}

step six:
after your jar is dry pick your favorite candle {for best results i recommend using a votive with a votive holder} to light. sit back and enjoy the elegant lighting that it creates.

i recently whipped up these mason jar vases for babber's birthday party
and they have been also serving as a valentine decoration until her big day...
easy as 1.2.3.
grab your mason jar (or recycled spaghetti jar in my case)
grab your heart doilie
grab your mod podge & brush
and viola!

you have these oh so cute valenitine/birthday party vases to display

{if you want to add a little color detail do as i did and cut out a little felt heart or wrap the jar in rafia}

yarn wreath picture display

i made this gift for my sister-in-law who loves peacock colors and has a splash of orange with ehr decor to give a great color contrast. this was a fun gift to make. i love how it turned out and i see myself making more wreaths for future gifts as well!

supplies:
foam tubing from hardware store (lowes/home depot)
yarn of your choice
colors of felt of your choice (i choose blue, lime green, black, and teal to make peacock feathers)
ribbon
duct tape
hot glue gun
clothespins

first make your decoration of your choice with the felt. i cut out different size rain drop shapes and glued the felt to make layers of color. i then pinched the bottom (the round part) and glued to make it appear more peacock feather like.
once your felt is complete...
make the foam tubing into a circle, size it the way you want, and cut. duct tape ends together to from your wreath. wrap yarn closely together, hot gluing every so often to hold in place. let dry.
arrange your felt decoration to your liking and glue away.
measure and cut ribbon and glue to the back of the wreath. i crocheted a single chain and glued on the back to cover the ends of the ribbon.
clothespin pictures, notes, cards... whatever you wish to display!!

clicky clacky clips

if you have a girl you know how chaotic the hair clip drawer can be, right? well i have seen the cute ribbon organizers, but it just seemed to not fit my little girl's personality & style. so when i received november's issue of Disney Family Fun and saw this tutorial, i had to make it for her! And guess what? she put her own twist on it by picking out pink yarn for the hair :)

i think it came out pretty darn cute! the only thing i would change...
use more yarn so the embroidery hoop is all covered :)

have to have a close up of the braid. seriously, it's so her.
pink hair. purple ribbon.
complete with all her clicky clacky clips
(as we call them over here)
now she can see them rather than "fishing" through the hair drawer.

Happy Birthday...

DR. SUESS

March 2nd Sammy got to celebrate Dr. Suess's birthday by decorating a baseball hat any way he wanted to...as long as it had something to do with Dr. Suess :)

All the hats were so creative! Sammy decided to go with "Cat in the Hat" We decorated a baseball cap with red and whit felt stripes.
Glued a cake (from a Cat in the Hat game) on top.
Glued a fan (also from the game) onto a tail :)
And last but not least...
painted a cat face on his handsome face.

So fun!

Exploring Nature

This past week the weather was perfect. Warm. Sunny. Breezy.
Absolutely lovely to take a walk around the block.

With the dog in tow, I gave the kids each their own ziploc baggy. While on our stroll, they picked up flowers, rocks, sticks, weeds...you name it.

Now what to do with all their findings?
A craft of course!

It was a fun day!
