Throwback Thursday

So we just started a new school year last week. FOURTH and SECOND grade! Where or where did my babies go?! Seriously. Time just goes faster and faster. I want to freeze time. But God didn't leave me that ability. He did leave me with the ability to soak up every minute of their childhood and to appreciate them as individuals (and the ability to take a ridiculous amount of pictures).

These pictures below are from last year when they started THIRD and FIRST grade. This was the first year that BOTH kids went full day. Now I have 2 weeks off still of work in between their first day of school and my first day of school. And I remember being so bored that first day when they were at school all day. I mean what was I to do? I had no one to clean up after. No one asking me if I could get them juice. No one asking me to play a game with them. No one asking me if they could watch a t.v. show. No one. It was bizarre. But I found different things to do to occupy my time while counting down the hours that I got to see them again.

And that takes us to this year. And yup. Here I sit, still bored, with no one. But I will say it's been nice to have quiet mornings knowing that they love their school, teachers, and friends. And I get to do things that are productive... like blog ;)

Abby did miss her first day of second grade due to a fever. She was bummed but willed herself better just in time for the second day.

We are all looking forward to this school year. Lots of learning and growing to be done. I am so thankful that I get to be a part of their education by volunteering and making a difference in their lives.

school's out for summer!

i am way late on posting about the kids last day of school...
but it is official... summer is here

before all i have to share is beach trips and swim days (because that is exactly what we will be doing) i wanted to give ya a peek at their last day as a kindergartner and a first grader :)

so proud of my baby girl
who by the way is growing up. way. to. fast.

last day of school
all set with their gifts for their teachers
{my poor kids had the sun blasting in their eyeballs and this mama right here insisted on getting a picture, sorry kids}

Sammy with his teacher
she will be missed but she is moving up to a higher grade level
so maybe in a couple years he'll get her again!

so happy school is over
that means:
sleeping in
no rush in the morning
lazy afternoons with no homework
beach and pool adventures
outside play til the sun goes down
more hugs and cuddles
and did i mention sleeping in? ;)

creative kids

the kids were recently BOTH recognized for their artistic abilities
made this mama over here oh so proud, let me tell ya!
makes my heart so happy that they love art and love to show off their passion

little man's class portrayed a piece by edgar degas' Little Dancer by drawing it with oil pastels
and guess what!? his was chosen to be displayed the whole month of february at our local mall
go sammy bear!

and little miss abby babbs was artist of the month at her school
way to represent those kinders abby!!
her art work was also an oil pastel piece of a snowman
which was hanging in the front office for the month!

mommy & daddy are so very proud of our kiddos
and the way they shine!!

keep on reaching for the stars kiddos!!

the week before thanksgiving vacation abby's class had a kindergarten feast!

my little artists

gotta love an arts focused school
it's is p-e-r-f-e-c-t for my kids
perfect
they can both shine in their own way while being educated

love that their school showcases different artists twice a year
fall and spring showcase

this year the classes that performed were asked to showcase artists from the top 100 Billboard

made my heart melt seeing all those cute little bodies up there singing and dancing to Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A"

Abby's outfit was complete with her red hair

and sammy showcased Zolita Sverdlove
i think our whole family loves learning about different artists and the techniques that were used

kindergarten & second grade

Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are going to be friends
Yes I can tell that we are going to be friends

Walk with me Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We can rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs we've found
Safely walk to school without a sound
We safely walk to school without a sound
Well here we are no one else
We walk to school all by ourselves
There's dirt on our uniforms
From chasing all the ants and worms
We clean up and now it's time to learn
We clean up and now it's time to learn

Numbers letters learn to spell
Nouns and books and show and tell
Play time we will throw the ball
Then back to class through the hall
The teacher marks our height against the wall
The teacher marks our height against the wall

And we don't notice any time pass
Because we don't notice anything
And we sit side by side in every class
The teacher thinks that I sound funny
But she likes it when you sing
Tonight I'll dream in my bed
While silly thoughts run through my head
Of the bugs and alphabet
And when I wake tomorrow I'll bet
That you and I will walk together again
Because I can tell that we are going to be friends
I can tell that we are going to be friends

Sammy and Abby started school, they are both in elementary school now! time flies.
as soon as we got on campus sammy was off to the hand ball courts (he is mister to cool for mommy all of a sudden) so i hung with my baby until she had to go into kindergarten.
i was so strong, until she vanished into her classroom, and then the water works started. poured actually. i split off that campus, i didn't have my sunglasses and wasn't about to have almost every parent see me ball my eyes out. i had to sit in my car for a few moments so i could collect myself. i drove home. poured myself another cup of coffee and thought... "hey this ain't that bad." ;)

off to school

the kiddos are tucked in bed. sleeping sweetly.
as i look around at all the toys strewn about the house, the basket of laundry that needs to be folded, and the dishes in the sink that need to be done... all i can think about is sending my BABY to school. how this will be the last time that i ever get to do this, the last time i send a child to kindergarten.
i am so excited for her and yet so sad at the same time.
she is filled with excitement and confidence.
but mama over here needs a year supply of tissue for one day.
i have had my moments of tears today (never letting her see of course).
i am so very proud of this little lady.
who she has become in the short 5 years of her little life... a playful, strong, independent little girl.

her outfit is picked out.
her backpack is packed.
she is ready freddy.

{today the kindergarten team at her school hosted a meet and greet where the kids got to meet their teachers and tour their classrooms, her teacher gave her a bag of gold fish and a little note that stated "Congratulations! You are o"fish"alley a kindergartener!" That got her super excited.}

all ready for kinder

my babbers graduated from preschool a couple weeks ago...
man she is such a big girl now!
her graduation theme was an under the sea adventure, so when we found this ariel dress she had. to. have. it.

and the shoes...
i upscaled some target shoes by adding cute fabric flowers.

and the hair...
she loves having her hair curled, but doesn't get it done to often
{this "do" took a total of 45 min including a blow dry}

and after getting her diploma
they said her name and what she wants to be when she grows up...
"an ear piercing doctor"
and our big fam who wouldn't miss it for the world!

and her wonderful teachers!

a little of this and a little of that

man, i have said it before (previous post) but i'll say it again...
we have been so busy with end of the year activities
field trips, plays, showcases, and carnivals

i am so excited that next school year they will be at the same school
{less driving equals more time}

sammy's last day of first grade was yesterday... what!? i have a second grader now? where oh where did the time go? i am stoked that his summer is here, i miss my little man while he is at school and i am looking forwad to not having to share him with school :)
the last few weeks have been filled with plays, showcases and carnivals
to send 'em all of to second grade (i'm still having a hard time accepting this). their brains are full.

sammy was the rooster in the play "Nuts"
super cute, so proud of my little thespian.

spring showcase
his class made a picture inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe

and Ms. Moran sending him off to second grade
we had a great year!
lots of fun and lots of learning
and blossoming into even more of a big kid!

and then there is little lady...
who is on the home stretch of being finished with pre-k and will be off to kindergarten.
again... what!?
i have a feeling that i will more of a wreck than i was here.
my baby, off to kindergarten.

summer break is almost here
i can taste it!
